If you’re planning on painting the interior of your Central Coast home, you’re likely wrestling with the all-important question of which color to choose.
Here are a couple of quick tips to keep in mind:
- Don’t start at your local paint store. Walking down aisles filled with millions of color squares will overwhelm you faster than almost anything, and especially when you realize that there are 300 versions of each color you’re interested in. We may be slightly exaggerating, but we’re not far off...
- Avoid being fixed on just one brand. “Which paint is best” is a good question, and one we hear often, but the truth of the matter is that different brands excel in different ways for different applications. The one universal truth is that investing in quality paint is worthwhile (bargain brands are anything but a bargain in the long run!).
- Utilize a site like Houzz.com to get inspiration! Whether you’re looking for living room or bedroom colors, cabinet tips or orange powder rooms, great ideas are around every corner.
- Talk to a professional painter. There is truly no substitute for sitting down with an experienced pro who can chat with you about your real situation, budget, space, and goals.
With all of that said, here’s another fun idea: check on trending interior paint colors!
What Are the Popular Paint Colors of 2017?
The painting world is already buzzing with anticipated color trends and forecasts. And, several major manufacturers have crowned specific colors as their color of the year.
While getting tangled up too much in trends isn’t always the best, particularly if you’re looking for a long-term solution that won’t be out of vogue in a few months, trends can offer inspiration. And, in this case, many of the colors of 2017 are stylish, practical, and established.
For example, Sherwin-Williams’ pick of the year is Poised Taupe. It’s a warmer neutral that will certainly leave room for any vibrant accent colors, artwork, or decorations you’d like to include within the space.

Benjamin Moore, on the other hand, is promoting a different, internationally-inspired color of the year: Shadow 2117-30.
Everyone’s take is a little different, based on their identified emerging patterns, research, and data. For a broader look at some of 2017’s big colors, you might want to check out this overview from House Beautiful, based on Pantone’s predictions.
Remember, Choose the Paint Colors You Love
At the end of the day, only you will be living inside the colors you choose. Trends may be fun to track, but ultimately you should select those options that represent you, your family, and your unique personality.
Go with what you love!
