Choosing Colors for Your Wintertime Interior Painting Project

How can you pick the right paint color?

Our rainy winter days are a perfect opportunity for revisiting the interior paint in your Central Coast home. And, looking on the bright side, at least we aren’t shoveling snow, right?

If an update or two is on your mind, how is your color selection process going? Are you feeling inspired and in control, or you feeling a little lost on a sea of endless options?

If you’re more lost than inspired, don’t worry. These simple tips will put you back in the driver’s seat and give you fresh direction.

#1 Find a Trustworthy Professional Painter

Too many homeowners think they need to have their ducks all in a row before calling their local painter. That’s just not the case. A true professional can help you make the best determinations for your home, walking with you through the whole process.

#2 Consider Your Fixed Colors

This tip applies to exterior painting too.

Before you start digging up prospective colors, think about those aspects of the space you can’t or won’t change. This might be brick, flooring, furniture you absolutely love, artwork, decor, etc... If you consider what your new paint will have to coordinate with, it can help steer and narrow your choices.

#3 Find Inspiration Right in the Room

Okay. Look back at that element that isn’t going to change. Is there a color within the pattern or design that you might be able to draw out, match, and use within the room? Maybe a swirl of grey in the carpet, a line of yellow in the curtains, or a splash of beautiful white in your favorite painting.

Whatever the source, look for inspiration in existing colors.

#4 Don’t Rely On Swatches

Trying to pick a paint color with a tiny square of cardboard is like buying a car online.

You need to sit in it, feel it, and experience it to know if it’s the right choice for you.

So, how can you experience paint? We suggest actually applying a sample to a couple of different walls within the room. See what the sheen looks like as it dries, observe how it interacts with your specific lighting, and make sure it feels right.

#5 Look to the Year’s Trending Interior Paint Colors
